NZ annual leave & long weekend planner

Choose a year, anniversary area and leave budget to find longer breaks. You can also count the leave needed for your own dates.

Independent NZ planning guide · Dates reviewed 18 October 2026
Designed for regular weekday work patterns using published observed dates. Weekend or rotating rosters need individual checks. School holidays are not treated as work holidays. Leave always needs workplace agreement.
Your usual working days

Leave dates blank to get ideas, or enter a specific break (up to 61 days).

How the planner counts

Each selected working day inside the break counts as annual leave unless it is a listed public holiday or your selected anniversary. Other days count as time off. The planner does not know your leave balance, employer closures, transferred holidays or approval status.

A 2027 example

With Monday–Friday working days, a break from 23–31 October needs four annual leave days: 26, 27, 28 and 29 October. Labour Day on 25 October and the two weekends complete the nine-day break.

Suggestions search up to nine days either side of published holidays and show up to eight of the longest matching breaks. They stay inside the selected year and are ideas, not an exhaustive optimisation of every possible leave pattern.

Your selections are processed in your browser and are not saved to an account.
